Funeral for Mrs. Elnora (Jeter) Vaught Monday (from Amherst, TX paper in July 1949)

Funeral services for Mrs. Elnora Vaught, 67, were held in the Amherst Methodist Church, Monday, July 4, at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Elmer Crabtree officiating assisted by the Rev. E.H. (Canton?) of Spade. Burial was in the Littlefield Cemetery under the direction of Payne Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vaught died in the South Plains Co-op Hospital early Sunday morning after an illness of several weeks.

Mrs. Vaught, who was Elnora Ethel Jeter before her marriage to Miles P. Vaught on Sept. 13, 1903 at Marlow, Oklahoma, was born Feb. 13, 1882 near Wills Point, Texas. In 1900 she moved with her family near Lawton, Okla.

At the age of 13 years she became a member of the Missionary Baptist Church, but after her marriage she became a member of the Methodist Church. She was a member of the Spade Methodist Church at the time of her death.

Mr. And Mrs. Vaught lived on their farm until his death 14 years ago. Since that time she had made her home with children.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Davis, Amherst and Mrs. Eugene Doser, (Cambell?), Mo.; three sons, Milton Vaught, Hereford, Wilson E. Vaught, Spade, and Odie O. Vaught, McFarland, Cal.; two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Gilliam, Lincoln, Ark., and Mrs. Ella Comerford, Wills Point; one brother Dr. D.O. Jeter, Alpine; one step-son, three step-daughters; 14 grandchildren, one great granddaughter; and a number of step grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jack Leary, Lewis Leary, Delton Cowart, Virgil Hinns, Pretiss Holland, and Ollie Davis.

Flower girls were Joyce Pickerel, Alma Jo Pickerel, Verlie Jo Gregson, and Sammie Painter.
