Russell married his sweetheart Bertha L. Clarke in Salt Lake City on September 20, 1947. Later their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple.
Russell was very proud of his service in the Navy during World War II. He was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. He served honorably on the USS Rigel for four years.
After the war he returned home to Magna, and attended LDS Business Collage where he and Bertha met each other. Russell worked at Kennecott Copper for many years, Hercules Power Company, for a few years and then he went to work for the US Post Office where he worked for 22 years until he retired in 1983.
Russell was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions during his lifetime.
Preceded in death by his wife. Survived by daughters: Diane Sorensen (Marlin), Rhonda Busch, Cyndy Petersen (Jerry), and Tina Clegg (Scott Hansen), 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, sister, Betty Eyre, and brother, Raymond (Sandra).
The family would also like to thank everyone at the VA Nursing home who cared for Russell.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home (4335 W. 4100 S.) Family and friends may call one hour prior to service.
