On Wednesday, 24 November 2010, George Armenta, 82 years old, passed away in Santa Ynez, California.
He was born on Thursday, 25 January 1928 in Santa Ynez, California and was the son of Loreto Clemente Armenta and Florencia Pasquala Armenta.
George served in the United States Army from Monday, 16 September 1946 thru Monday, 22 August 1949.
He was a Tribal Elder of the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians and served as a four time Tribal Chairman of the Chumash and was Housing Commissioner and managed Tribal Enrollment for many years.
George was instrumental in the welfare and growth of the Chumash Reservation from the early years to the present.
Mr. Armenta is survived by his children, Celestine Arment and Michael Armenta, his siblings, Eva (Armenta) Pagaling, Esther (Armenta) Manguray and Manuel Armenta.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loreto Clemente Armenta and Florencia Pasquala Armenta, his siblings, Eulalia F. (Armenta) Ochoa, Mary J. (Armenta) LaRowe, Maria Armenta, Leandro J. Armenta, Catherine I. (Armenta) Romero, Celestine Armenta and Antonia Armenta.
