Mitch served as a Corporal in Battery A 345 Field Artillery during World War I.
On the 28 October 1922, he married Lillie Mae Crawford, daughter of John Nathan Crawford and Mattie Belle Faith. He was 29 years old. They had two children:
1. Elmer Lavern Taff was born on 20 Aug 1923 in San Saba, Texas. He died on 05 Oct 2005 in Columbia, South Carolina. He was 82.
2. Billie Malee Taff was born on 23 Dec 1925 in Caldwell County, Texas. She died on 21 Aug 1996 in Midland, Midland County, Texas. She married Buster Grant Davenport on 15 Jul 1946.
He died on 11 Jul 1971 in San Angelo, Tom Green County, Texas. Mitchell Taff was buried in Mertzon Cemetery, Irion County, Texas. He was survived by his wife; and four sisters, Myrtle Oldham, Mary Ada McWhorter, Rilla Potter and Katie Bell Miller. He was preceded by his parents; two brothers, William T, Rufus and Samuel; and one sister, Mattie J Karnes.
His family lived in San Saba, Texas, in 1900, 1910 and 1920. In 1935, he lived in Iraan, Pecos County; and by 1940, his family lived in Irion County, Texas.
