On December 24, 1923, James B. Gaston married Elizabeth Sligh Greneker, daughter of Eugene Ferguson Greneker, Sr. and the former Marie Moore at the First Christian Church, in Augusta, Georgia. They had three children: Betty (1924), Marie (1930-1951) and my father, James Bostwick (1926-2015).
My grandfather was a businessman, sportsman and politician. He owned the Greenville (SC) Spinners, a minor league baseball team which was part of the South Atlantic League and affiliated with the Brooklyn Dodger organization. He travel throughout the country scouting young players for different ball clubs.

-1944 Republican candidate U.S. Senate Race, defeated by Gov. Olin Johnston
-1950 Republican candidate U.S. Representative SC 4th District Race, defeated by Joseph R. Bryson (incumbent).
-1954 Republican candidate U.S. Senate Race, defeated by the write-in candidate former Gov. Strom Thurmond, a Dixie-crat.
On June 29, 1958, James Bostwick Gaston, Jr. died in Wilson, North Carolina, while returning from a family wedding in Richmond, Virginia. He is buried in Westover Memorial Park cemetery in Augusta, Georgia alongside his wife, Elizabeth Sligh Greneker Gaston.
