George Bloomfield was born in England to George and Hagar (Nunn) Bloomfield. His mother died in 1868 and his father second married in 1869. He emigrated to the USA aboard the Emerald Isle and arrived in NY on 24 Jun 1871 with his father and his second wife, Elizabeth Guard, his sisters Ellen, Julia, brother Arthur and half brother William Henry. He was a carpenter when he first arrived. He later became a superintendent of an iron works company. He built bridges all over the northeast. While building a bridge in Selisgrove, PA he met Martha Jane Parks. They married December 23, 1884 in Selinsgrove. They moved to Philadelphia where George had lived. In 1889 they had their only child, Lydia Hager Bloomfield. Hager was his mother's first name. They lived at 2921 N. 13th St., Philadelphia, but continued to travel back and forth to Selinsgrove. In 1893 George supervised the building of a bridge in Philadelphia and in 1894 George supervised the building of a bridge in Jersey City, NJ and in April of 1895 he supervised the building of one in New York and from the summer through November he supervised building one in Bristol, Connecticut. Later in life George and Martha lived with their daughter, Lydia and husband, until they died
