She was born March 16, 1911, in Rockingham County, a daughter of the late Owen and Manna Breeden Alders. She graduated from Dayton High School and Garfield Hospital of Nursing in Washington, D.C. She took her clinical work at George Washington University and Children's Hospital, St. Elizabeth. She graduated in 1933 and was an OR Nurse at Rockingham Memorial Hospital until retirement at age 70.
Miss Alders was a long-time member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church of Harrisonburg and was a member of the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by one niece, Patricia Brown-Leffel of Broadway; her great-niece, Lynn Packard and husband Charles and a son Chris of Greenville, N.C.; a great-nephew, Roy (Rob) Owen Brown and wife Pam and children Ryan and Allie of Woodstock, Ga.; a great-nephew, G. Scott Brown and wife Victoria and children Sarah and Sam of Albuquerque, N.M. She was preceded in death by a sister, Emma Karee Cooke.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. Glen Langston officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the services on Sunday. The casket will remain closed.
