Vern Clive Nichol, after a grand 95 years, passed quietly from this life on November 24, 2010. His life was defined by several stages: Born May 2, 1915 as a middle son of James Reynolds Nichol and Alice Marinda Wright, with six brothers and five sisters. Married Helen Rae Christensen and together they had three sons and three daughters. Later divorced and married Verna Nelson Leavitt who preceded him in death. He is survived by his first wife; sister LaVae Cook; children Gerald Clive Nichol (Jeannette), James Ray Nichol (Joan), Cathleen Riley (Dave), Lynda Davies, Richard Scott Nichol (Annette), Jeffry (Majorie) Leavitt, Jack (Chris) Leavitt, Richard Leavitt, Gloria Jayne (Randy) Austin, Diane Leavitt; 29 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. He provided for his family as a master carpenter, woodworker and other areas of construction. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and especially skiing. He started skiing at 11 years old when much more time was spent hiking up the hill than schussing down. He helped build the first ski lift at Alta, Utah, and served there as a ski instructor in the Alf Engen and Deseret News Ski Schools. He enjoyed competing in races in the Senior Division of the Coca Cola Cup, not "hanging up his boards" until he was 89. In later years he loved gardening and serving as a Temple Ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple. He and Verna served as the first ordinance missionaries in the Denver Temple from 1986 to 1987.
