What a heavenly reunion it was Wednesday night as our sweet LaVae was welcomed by her husband, Joe; angel daughters, Cheryl and Jolyn; parents; and eleven brothers and sisters.

LaVae Nichol Cook, born May 19, 1926, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2019 surrounded by family. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wildflower Ward Chapel, 1880 East 9800 South. Viewings will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South), South Jordan, and prior to the services at the church on Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

The youngest of twelve, LaVae was born in Salt Lake City to JR and Alice Wright Nichol. She married Lynden Joseph Cook on June 16, 1955 and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple as a forever family in 1961. Together, they raised LaVae’s daughters, Cheryl Stark and Kaye Sheppard Stone, before having two beautiful kids of their own, Jolyn Cook and Keith Joseph Cook.

LaVae loved Kneaders, Dr. Pepper without ice, and her grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids. She had a heart of gold and gave without expecting anything in return. She was an example of true kindness to all who knew her. She will be remembered for her generosity, her humor, and her fierce love of the gospel. She will be missed beyond measure.

LaVae is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, and daughters, Jolyn and Cheryl. She is survived by her daughter, Kaye; son, Keith; son-in-law, Richard Stark; grandkids, Troy (Tiffany) Stark, Dru Stark, Brett (Carrie) Stark, Ryan (Andrea) Stark, Bryce (Cassie) Stark, Taralyn (James) McConnehey, Tawna (Mike) Thompson, Devon (Brooke) Stark, Jennifer Stone, Michael Stone, Andrea Cook, sweetiest heartiest Mikelle (Brent) Daugherty, and Daniel (Nicole) Cook; and many great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids.

The family would like to thank Horizon Hospice and Luv at Home Caregivers and all of LaVae’s friends and neighbors who provided care and support for LaVae in her final weeks. We know she’ll be cheering for the Utah Jazz from Heaven. How lucky we are to have had someone who makes saying goodbye so hard.
