Mr. Roy Edward "Pete" Coffey, age 76, of Hudson, N.C., died Sunday, November 30 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

Mr. Coffey was born September 8, 1921 in Ashe County, to the late George Edward and Pearl White Coffey.

He was a member of the Hudson United Methodists Church, the D.A.V. and the V.F.W. He was a retired school administrator, having served in Mecklenburg County Schools, Fairmont City Schools and Caldwell County Schools for 33 years. He served four years on the State Textbook Committee and was a member of the Hudson Town Board, Hudson Lions Club, the North Carolina Lions Foundation and Caldwell County ____. He was a veteran of World War II and a graduate of Applachian State Teachers College.

Mr. Coffey is survived by his w[ife] Enid Carroll Coffey of the home; o[ne] daughter, Mrs. Lynn Smith and husband, Lynn of Hudson; one granddaughter, Meredity Smith of Chapel Hill; three sisters, Mrs. Ola Craig of blowing Rock, Mrs. Lucy Hollar of Boone and Mrs. Wyona Blackburn of Virginia Beach, Virginia; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Maud Carroll, of Hudson, formerly of Watauga County. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday morning at Hudson United Methodist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Gerald Collins. Graveside services and interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in Blowing Rock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hudson United Methodist Church, 383 Main Street, Hudson, N.C. 28638 or to the Hudson Lions Club.

Pendry's Funeral Home in Lenoir was in charge of arrangements.
