George C. Schloerb of 114 Eveline street, one of the pioneer citizens of Oshkosh and a man held in highest esteem, died Thursday afternoon at about 3:30 o'clock after a brief illness. For the past forty-one years he and Mr. A. Metz, who passed away a few weeks ago, were associated in the wholesale leather business, located at the corner of Main and Waugoo streets. Mr. Schloerb had been ailing since last February, but was enabled to attend to his business interests until about a week ago, when he became so ill that he was confined to his bed. His death will be a source of deep sorrow to many friends as he was highly respected by all who knew him.

Mr. Schloerb was born in Schotten, Hesse-Damstadt, Germany, June 2, 1821, and was therefore over eighty years of age. He came to America in 1848 and located in Cleveland, Ohio, where he remained one year. He came to Oshkosh in 1849 and lived here ever since. Forty-one years ago he formed a partnership with Mr. Metz and Metz & Schloerb became one of the most familiar names in the city.

Deceased is survived by a wife and two children, Mrs. Richard Guenther and Otto C. Schloerb, also a grandson, Richard Guenther, Jr., of Salt Lake City, Utah and a brother and sister living in Germany.
