PERRY HERALD July 11, 1940:
Mrs. Hugh Lafferty passed away suddenly Friday, July 5, 1940 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leslie Corp in Detroit, where she had been staying. Mary McTigue was born in Portageville on November 11, 1865, the daughter of Patrick and Mary Jane McTigue. She was united in marriage October 26, 1885 to Hugh Lafferty. They resided in Portageville briefly before moving to Silver Springs. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend.

She is survived by six daughters, Nellie (Leslie) Corp, Julia (George) Wollner, Anne (Edward) Hertel, all of Detroit, Mrs. E. (Mabel) McQuillen of Bergenfield, N. J., Mary (C.P.) Kniffin, Mrs. Joseph (Genevieve) Snider of Kenmore; three sons, Leo of Rochester, Hugh of Olean, James of Detroit; 16 grandchildren; and a brother, John McTigue of Chicago. The body was taken Saturday to her late Maple Street home. Services were from the home on Tuesday, followed by a Requim Mass sung by Rev. Charles Rochford at St. Mary's Church assisted by Rev. Kemp and Rev. Kleis. She was borne to her final resting spot, by her husband, in the church cemetery borne by her six son-in-laws.
