Iva Maxine Riney, age 83, of Kahoka, died Saturday, February 16, 2002, at Keokuk Area Hospital. She was born April 25, 1918 at Gregory Landing, a daughter of Roy G and Cecile Miller Bick. She married Richard Carlyle Riney on December 16, 1937 at Kahoka. He preceded her in death in November, 1979 and rests at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Survivors include a son, Jimilee Riney and wife, Erna, of Burlington, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Riney of Hartford, California; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Kerry Riney, and a sister, Willie Holmes. Maxine had been raised in the tri-state area, graduating from Keokuk Senior High in 1937. She had worked many years as a retail clerk and cashier and was a member of the Retail Clerk's Association. She and Richard had raised their children in Missouri. They moved to Colorado after their son, Jimilee and family settled there, with Maxine returning to Kahoka in 1992. She was an excellent cook, an avid gardener, and loved to travel. She also enjoyed crocheting and doing ceramics. She had been attending First Baptist Church in Wayland. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 21 at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastors Dan Deatrick and Kevin Nihart officiating. Mrs. Joyce Luttrell was organist. Special music was provided by Tom and Joyce Luttrell.
