Christopher "Chris" Lane Shackelford was born at the Baptist Medical in Montgomery County, Alabama and died on July 29, 2000 in Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia from injuries in a car accident when the car in which he was driving was struck head on by a druck driver. Christopher was a graduate of Woodstock High School in Woodstock, Georgia and was attending Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia where he was majoring in Film. He was an aspiring young actor with ambitions for the movies. Chris had performed in several plays and had been an active member of the Atlanta Workshop Players and performed with the Georgia Renaissance Festival. He was working on a film for an independent producer in Los Angeles, California.

The horrible tragedy that took the life of Chris and his friends has brought to life to various movements to change and enact laws to help end this type of tragedy which occurs with common frequency. One such organization to come from these was formed by friends of Chris. In their grief over the deaths of Chris, Jullie and Kelli, they have started an organization known as S.T.O.P. (Save The Other Person), in an effort to get people to behave responsibly when it comes to consuming alchohol. Their effort to date has been very successful and has drawn national attention.

Chris was a son of Kendrick Wayne Shackleford and Cindy Ash. He was a grandson of Iry Zeddie Shackleford and Eva Naomi Dean, a great grandson of Young Lee Shackelford, 2nd great grandson of John Harlin Shackelford, 3rd great grandson of James Carlisle Shackelford Civil War Veteran). His 3rd great grandparents are buried at the Carrollton Cemetery in Carroll County, Georgia.
