Milton Jackson Allphin, a pioneer of 1847, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. C. McBride, here, June 24.

Mr. Allphin was born in Franklin County, Ky., November 7, 1828. In 1835 moved to Schuyler County, Ill., where he lived until 1847, when he migrated to Oregon crossing the plains by ox team. He settled in Linn County, where he lived several years, moving from there to Salem in the early '60's. He took an active part in politics for a number of years, being an ardent Democrat.

Mr. Allphin was a resident of Corvallis, Benton County, for many years prior to 1884, when he moved to Little Elk, Lincoln County, and settled on a homestead. He lived there until about 1900, when he moved to Toledo, Or. A short time before his death he came to Eddyville, to live with his daughter.

He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Bowman, of Miller's Station, Linn county, and three sons and three daughters, Mrs. A. L. Chitwood, of Cottage Grove; Mrs. C. C. McBride, of Eddyville; Mrs. W. F. Gray, of Portland; Joseph and Eugene Allphin, both of Portland, and Thomas Allphin, of Montana. The interment will be made at the Eddyville cemetery.
