She had lived in Simsbury and Bristol for many years prior to moving to Harwinton two years ago. She was a graduate of Simsbury High School and Tunxis Community College. Marilyn was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Marines and the Navy Reserves and was employed as a teachers' aide with the Bristol and Simsbury School Systems for many years prior to her retirement. She started and was a member of the Sweet Adelines in Bristol. Marilyn loved her family and friends, camping, fishing and bowling. She was very much involved with crafts of all kinds, making porcelain dolls, baking and decorating wedding and special occasion cakes.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by a daughter, Kelly Barkoski and her husband Raymond of East Litchfield; a sister, Gloria Yasny of West Granby; a brother, Dean Monarch of Arizona; a granddaughter, Rhiannon Barkoski; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister and a brother, Leah (Toof) Wainauski and Stewart E. Toof. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton Monday, June 2, 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be Tuesday, June 3, 10 a.m., at the Vincent Funeral Home, Canton.
