Lucy Nelson of Troy Mills Dies

TROY MILLS - Lucy Nelson, 80, lifelong resident of Troy Mills, died Saturday at a hospital in Iowa City. Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the First Methodist church in Walker with burial in the Troy Mills cemetery.

She was married to Andrew J. Nelson Dec. 10, 1903, in Drake N.D. He died in 1953. She is survived by a daughter, Reba Turner of Cedar Rapids and 2 sons, Vernon of Marion and Howard of Walker.

Mrs. Nelson's parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cherry homesteaded in this area. The house she lived in here was 100 years old.

Friends may call at the Murdoch chapel in Walker after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Survivors included one daughter, Reba Turner of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Vernon of Marion, and Howard of Walker. Her husband died in 1953.


Lucy Ann Cherry was born the daughter of Joseph Grant Cherry and Susan Miles. They are buried in this cemetery. Lucy was a school teacher. She was married to Andrew Jackson Nelson on December 10, 1903 in Drake, North Dakota. They were parents of three children: Vernon Cherry Nelson buried this cemetery; Reba Louise Nelson married John Eric Turner; Howard William Nelson buried in this cemetery.
