William Miller Slay Jr.

Services for William Slay Jr. , 90, of Longview, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at Welch Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. David English officiating.

Mr. Slay passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010, at a local medical facility.

A longtime resident of Longview, William M. Slay Jr. was born June 4, 1920, in Crystal Springs, Miss., to William Miller Slay Sr. and Ava Henry Slay.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Longview.

Before retiring from the military, he served in the United States Air Force during World War II and Korea.

Continuing his commitment for service to his country, he also served as the assistant director of various Veterans Administration hospitals.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Imogene Sullins Slay; brother-in-law and sister-in law, Joe and Bobbie Sullins; nephews, Scott and Jeff Sullins and Gary and Greg Sullins; and nieces, Pam Bryant and Deanna Sullins.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage donations to the Alzheimer's Alliance, 211 Winchester Dr., Tyler, TX 75701.
