He was the son of the late Isaiah Strickland and the late Flora Thomas Strickland. He served in the U. S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Albemarle. He was an avid NASCAR fan and a USC Gamecock fan.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lynn Strickland and Suzanne Strickland; a brother, Bill Strickland; and two sisters, Ola Williams and Lucy Strickland.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Kate Linda Strickland of the home; six children and their spouses, Michael (Deborah) Strickland of Norway, Brenda (Butch) Carlton of Cameron, Walter "Rusty" (Vickie) Strickland of St. Matthews, Joe (Dotty) Strickland of Cameron, Beth (Paul) Garber of Sumter and Penni (Neal) Crider of Bamberg; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edna Elliot of Columbus, Ga.
