Richard D. Boyce (age 82) of Athens passed away at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Memorial Hospital in Springfield.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1928 at Wayne, NE, the son of Collier and Alice Boyce. He attended country school and high school in Wayne.

After graduating in 1946 he enlisted in the army and spent a year in Japan during the occupation, and was discharged in January, 1948. He then took up flying after returning home. He met his wife, Marilyn, while she was going to college in Wayne and they became engaged. He was drafted back into the Army in 1951 and served the next 20 months in Korea. On returning home, he and Marilyn were married on June 14, 1953. He spent the next 30 years working for Ozark Airlines, then 15 years for Trans States Airlines.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn; a daughter, Jerilyn Fuchs of Rochester, IL and her children, Tyler and Taryn, also a son, Bill (Gwen) of Havana, IL, and their children, Andy, Katie and Kellie. Also surviving are two sisters Lois (Verne) Miller of Norfolk, NE, Linda (Jim) Martindale of York, NE, and two brothers Larry of Tulsa, OK, and Bob (Perri) of Sioux City, IA, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Donald and Terry. He was a member of Athens Christian Church.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday at Mott & Henning Funeral Home in Athens from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Athens Christian Church.

Rev. Ken Gennicks will be officiating.

Burial will be held at a later date.

Memorial can be made to Athens Christian Church.
