OBITUARY-MARIETTA ENGLISH

Marietta Clemings was born near Newark, Ohio, October 28, 1848. When quite a young woman she came to Clark county where she became a successful teacher.

Early in life she gave her heart to Christ and became a member of the Methodist church and ever remained a consistent and faithful member of her chosen church. She gave liberally to the cause of the Master and gladly aided in every work that gave promise of saving souls.
She was an active charter member of the W. F. M. S., also the W. C. T. U. organization at Asbury and filled offices in both. She was never demonstrative in her feelings and actions but was content to show by her deeds alone, the motives which guided her daily life. She was a great reader and a broad minded woman, a good neighbor, and a noble Christian. Her religious life remains as a monument to which her children can point with pride. There was no limitations upon her determination to do that which was right under any and all circumstances. In the hours of adversity when the sun was obscure, she always exerted her ability and opportunity to set all things right and make everybody happy.
On December 31, 1874 she was united in marriage with John Abel English who preceded her in death nearly 27 years. Seven children were born to this union, two sons, Ferman and Mark, passed on several years ago. During the early years of married life and during the hardships of pioneer days when she and her young husband were struggling to make a home and rear a family, she proved a true helpmeet. Her life was full of earnest, honest toil and full of years. Her passing was in keeping with her life --quiet and peaceful.

Mrs. English had been in failing health for many months, but all through her sickness she was cheerful and hopeful and patiently suffered until tired nature finally give way. All her children were with her at various times during her last illness.

She is survived by four sons, J. Will of Paris, Raymond C. of Decatur, Dr. Hubert M. of Gary and Chas. W. of Marshall and one daughter, Mrs. Albert Hall of Marshall, eleven grandchildren, three sisters who reside in Ohio and many other relatives. She passed away at the home of her daughter on Tuesday morning, September 6, 1927, aged 78 years, 10 months and 8 days. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon following her death, Rev. Howard Leach of the Methodist church officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the Marshall cemetery.
