Son of Virginia Saunders (b. Greene Co., NC) and Delany Harper (b. Greene Co., NC).

Luby married first 1885 in Goldsboro, Wayne Co., NC, Maggie OVERMAN (born 1867); d/o John J. & Sarah J. OVERMAN. Luby's name on their license was mis-transcribed as "Suby S. Harper".

Luby S. Harper married second April 9, 1893, Mary Viola Moore. They later divorced.

Luby married third December 14, 1904, Mary Odham, daughter of Mary Pierce and Benjamin Odham.

Luby and Viola were listed in the 1900 US Census in Craven Co., NC, as Luby S. Harper, 35, b. June 1864, m. 7 years; Viola Harper, 25, b. Oct 1874, 2 children, 2 living; and two children.

Luby and Mary were listed in the 1910 US Census in Grifton, Pitt Co., NC, as Luby S. Harper, 45; Mary Harper, wife, 30; and five children: Eva May, 15; Laura G., 11; Ruby H., 9; Luby S., Jr., 2; and Mary E., 0.

Luby was a Farmer. He died at age 54 years, 7 months, 14 days, of Pneumonia following Influenza.

Luby and Viola had four children:
