Joseph George Zaitz, Pelican Lake, died Wednesday at his home. He was 77 years old.

Mr. Zaitz was born March 15, 1916 in Leadville, Colo., a son of the late Josph and Helen Zaitz. He married the former Vesta Brown. They were later divorced.

Mr. Zaitz moved to the Antigo area as a child. He was later employed by Swift Meat Packing Company, Iowa and Rockford, Ill., serving as Chief Steward Union Executive for many years. He retired in 1981 and moved to Pelican Lake.

Mr. Zaitz served with the United States Navy as a Seaman First Class in the Pacific Theater from Oct. 27, 1944 to December 25, 1945.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Adel, Birmingham, Mich.; three grandchildren, Bryan, Gregory and Robyn Adel; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by five infant siblings; a grandson, Eric Robert Adel; three sisters, Rose Zaitz, Mary Chadek and Helen Malish; and four brothers, Rudy, Albert, Frank and John.
