'M.P.' Bailey, press official at the Speedway for 59 years

Services for Indianapolis 500 press official Maurice P. "M.P." Bailey. 85, Pensacola, Fla., will be at 10a.m. Tuesday in Lauck Funeral Home, with calling from 2p.m. to 9p.m. Monday.
He died Wednesday.
Mr. Bailey formerly of Indianapolis, worked 59 years in the Press Informaion Bureau at the annual Indianapolis 500-mile Race.
He missed what would have been his 60th race last May because of illness.
One of more than 25 workers assigned to the pits, he was responsible for relaying any information learned during drivers' pit stops to the media.
He had worked for RCA Corp. for about 20 years, serving as Supervisor for quality control for the corporation's New Jersey plant for 15 years and in the same capacity at the Indianapolis plant for five years.
He retired from RCA in 1970.
Previously, he owned Gabriel Shock Absorbers and Bailey's Garage, both in Indianapolis. He had also installed shock absorbers on Indy cars for Houdaille and Gabriel companies and worked for Indianapolis Newspapers Inc., publishers of The Indianapolis Star and the Indianapolis News.
He was a 22-year member of the Indianapolis 500 Old Timers' Club and a member of Schwab Drive Babtist Chruch, Pensacola.
He was the widower of Elizabeth Schneider Bailey.
Survivors: sons Paul, Dick, Joe, and Jim Bailey; Daughters, Mary Dillard, Dorothy Washam, Margaret Beach, Jane McArdle, Ginger Congdon, and Esther Capps; 35 Grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; companion, Irma Way
