Wife of Peter Burkholder Sr.
Peter and Margaret were married in Lancaster County, Pa. and moved to Rockingham County, Virginia, in 1788.
Genealogy books say that while visiting in Pa. in 1799, Peter died and was buried beside his mother at Groffdale Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster County, Pa. However, recent research shows he was still living in Virginia until at least 1810 but had died by 1812. His nuncupative will was filed in Rockingham County Court on November 17, 1812. This is not Margaret's original monument. The information on it came from published sources which repeated the tradition. Her original field stone grave marker is at the Valley Brethren-Mennonite Heritage Center at Harrisonburg, Va. The field stone bears only the date, 1798.
