OBITUARY

Alice Vivian Crowder CANTWELL, a longtime Canadian resident, died Thursday, November 2, 2000, in Oklahoma City.

Funeral services were held the morning of November 6, at the First Baptist Church in Canadian with Rev. Jack Lee,
pastor of the First Baptist church of Shamrock, and Jerry Golden, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Canadian
officiating.

Burial followed in the Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery by Stickley-Hill Funeral Directors.

Mrs. CANTWELL was born March 2, 1911 in Benton, Arkansas to Ernest W. and Mary Willis CROWDER. She attended schools in Blue Ridge (Hemphill County) and Canadian. She married Drew CANTWELL on August 17, 1928 in Zybach. He preceded her in death on November 12, 1984.

During World War II, Mrs. CANTWELL worked in an airplane factory in Torrance, California.

The CANTWELLs returned to Canadian in 1945 and Mrs. CANTWELL worked for 27 years a receptionist and nurse for
Dr. Rush Snyder. She enjoyed needlework, sewing and refinishing furniture. She also enjoyed traveling, touring all of the United States and Canada.

She was active in the First Baptist Church. In years past, she taught Girls Auxiliary, helped with Vacation Bible School and helped in the library from its inception. She was the President of her Sunday school class and was co-hostess for the Christmas luncheon for many years(and was making plans for this year’s event.) She also enjoyed the retreats to Glorietta, New Mexico. Her real love was the Women’s Missionary Union in which she held various office over the years.

Mrs. CANTWELL was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church and the Fifties Plus Club.

Survivors include a sister, Jewel JOHNSON of Brigham City, Utah; a brother, Kenneth CROWDER of Riverside, California; a niece and nephew-in-law, Wilma and Andy EUBANK of Canadian (Wilma was like a daughter to Mrs. CANTWELL); nephews Joe KILLIAN of Amarillo and Utah BENTLEY of Lake City, Colorado; a niece, Helen YANCEY of Spearman; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
