E.C. "Ed" Ackerman, 87, of Decatur, Ill., formerly of Peoria, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2010, at Lincoln Manor Nursing Home in Decatur, Ill.

He was born April 22, 1923, in Detroit, Mich., to William J. and Lena Graf Ackerman. He married Martha Nolte on Jan. 24, 1943, in Palmyra, Mo. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, John (Marianne) of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Brent (Denise) of Chillicothe, Ill., and Bruce of Decatur, Ill.

Ed served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army serving in the World War II European Theatre. He was a past president of the PTA, the City Council in Peoria, Ill., adult activities chairman of the Decatur YMCA, president of the Industrial Management Club, president of the Bal Tabrin dance club and a member of the Spouse and Sparkle Dance Club. He also was active in the Cub Scouts.

Ed was a retired supervising engineer with over 42 years of service at Caterpillar Inc.

Ed enjoyed his outdoor time, was an avid fisherman, and spent winters in southern Texas' Rio Grande Valley for the past 30 years.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be in Swan Lake.
