Mrs. Elizabeth Brodess, widow of A. W. Brodess, died at 3:20 Saturday morning at the home of Mrs. Nellie Priest, 1058 North Union. Mrs.Brodess had been an invalid for the last twenty years and for three years had been confined to her bed. Death was due to a complication of diseases. Mrs. Brodess was born in Chillicothe, Ohio, Nov. 27, 1836. She was the daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth McKenzie. She was married to Allen W. Brodess in Chillicothe in 1853 and the next year came to Illinois, where she settled near Grove City, coming to Decatur in 1876. With the exception of five years spent in Niantic, she has lived in Decatur since that time. Two chlldren were born to Mr. and Mrs. Brodess, Althea M. and Clinton M., both of whom are dead Mr. Brodess died in 1915. Three grandchildren and one great-grand
child survive. They are Rev. Arthur A. Heinlein of Newman, Roy L. and Earl E. Heinlein, both of Blue Mound and the great grandchild is Elsie Marie Nihiser of Decatur. Mrs. Brodess was related to the Sadlers and McKenzies at Taylorville and Grove City, and also is a relative of Judge Frank Sadler of Chicago. Mrs. Brodess was a member of Grace Methodist church, uniting with the Methodist church when a young girl. She also was a worker in the W. C. T. U. She was a great reader and especially enjoyed her church papers. The body was taken, to Monson undertaking establishment and prepared for burial. Definite funeral arrangements await the arrival of relatives.

Mrs. Brodess was buried in the public mausoleum which was torn down in 1967 and her body was placed in a common grave in Greenwood.
