About 1851, soon after the birth of their fifth child, John moved his wife and children to a farm just south of Crawford, then the county seat of Russell County in Alabama. On this farm John and Margaret lived for more than forty years. About the time the younger children were growing up, John moved the family further west in the county to the Shiloh settlement. There they remained for several years until about 1897 or 1898, when he and his wife and youngest daughter Emma moved to Hatchechubbee, a village in Russell County. There they lived until the death of John F Williams in December 1901. Margaret Williams, who had borne and reared sixteen children, followed her husband in death a year later. John and Margaret Williams were married for 57 years.
Her parents were (Daniel or Abner?) and Margaret Wilkerson. She had four brothers: Neal, Abner, Edward, and William. Margaret was the mother of sixteen children. The oldest son, Thomas, served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. All of the children married and raised families except Edward, who died of a snake bite in his teens, and Emma, who never married.
Margaret's obituary reads as follows:
Russell Register, 12-5-1902; Seale, Alabama, page 3, published weekly by Tucker & Chadwick.
"Mrs. J. F. Williams died at her home near Uchee Monday morning after a lingering illness. Besides many other relatives she is survived by several children among whom is Mrs. J. G. Chadwick of this place. Her remains were interred in the Shiloh cemetery Tuesday. The bereaved ones have the sincere sympathy of a large circle of friends in this sad hour."

Dearest Mamma thou hast left us
And our loss we deeply feel.
But tis God who has bereft us
He can all our sorrows heal.
