Gloucester Point - James Edward Sterling, 71, died Tuesday in Walter Reed Memorial Hospital.
He was a member of Severn Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ethel Williams Sterling; five daughters, Mrs. Audrey S. Waddle and Mrs. Joan S. German, both of Williamsburg; Mrs. Gloria Kilpatrick of Montgomery, Ala., Mrs. Nelda S. Carter of Richmond and Mrs. Sandra S. Owens of Gloucester; a son, J. E. Sterling Jr. of Gloucester; a sister, Mrs. Thelma S. Hudgins of Port Haywood; a stepsister, Mrs. Lorraine S. Jenkins of (Bena); four stepbrothers, Harry Byrd Sterling and Herbert Hoover Sterling, both of Hayes, Charles Curtis Sterling of Gloucester and Bernard Eugene Sterling of Sacramento, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Severn Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William Hawkins.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Hogg Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 Thursday and requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Gloucester Volunteer Rescue Squad or to Severn Presbyterian Church.
