US Congressman. Fought during World War I in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1917 to 1921. Elected to Represent New Jersey’s 3rd District in the United States House of Representatives to fill the vacancy caused by the death of his father, Congressman Theodore T. Appleby, serving from 1925 to 1927. During World War II he served in the United States Coast Guard.
