Mac Paul Wenskunas, 35, was born in Georgetown on June 8, 1922, a son of John and Stella Wenskunas, and was married to Frances Byers in Assumption in 1943.


He was a graduate of the University of Illinois in the class of 1947 and was captain of the 1946 University of Illinois football team which won the Rose Bowl game. He also was a member of the 1947 All-Star football team. He served in the Marines in World War II.


He came to Decatur from Athens, Ohio and was a salesman for the Jostin Classroom Jewelry Co. Previously, he had held coaching positions at Quincy College and South Dakota State University.


He leaves four children: Mary Ellen, Patricia Anne, Thomas Mac and Nancy Jane; his mother: Stella Yanush of Oglesby; brothers: Paul of Hammond, Indiana and John of Oglesby; half-brother: Peter Yanush of Granville; half-sisters: Anna Zubowski of LaSalle and Stella Yanush of Decatur; and a step-brother: John Yanush of Oglesby.
