"PITCHED DOWN CHUTE AND DIED OF INJURIES - W R Armitage, East Branch Farmer, Fatally Hurt on Wednesday - While assisting to thresh grain at the barn of W S Strong, near East Branch on Tuesday, W R Armitage fell through a feed hole from the second to the first floor, sustaining internal injuries from which he died on Wednesday. Armitage was moving back straw and did not notice the half covered chute down which hay is thrown to the mangers. He stepped into the opening and fell twelve feet. Dr Kerr of Grand Valley was summoned. He found the internal injuries so severe that the case was hopeless from the first. The deceased is survived by his widow and six children, the eldest, 16. Funeral services will be held tomorrow. A year ago James Armitage, a brother of the dead man, was killed while blasting stumps with dynamite on his farm at East Branch. He was working alone and was found in a dying condition some hours after the accident. This second calamity in the family within so short a period has made them deserving of the deepest sympathy. Mr Armitage was one of the most prosperous and popular farmers of his community."
