On March 3, 1913, Alma Vertice Gray was born to Betty Morgan Gray and Almer Gray, in Claiborne Junction City, LA. She was one of the eleven children born to this couple.

The family moved to Tulsa, OK in 1923 and, as a unit, they were one of the founding families of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she labored as a lifelong dedicated member. Her Christian faith allowed her to labor in service as a W.M.U., Deaconess, Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer and Financial Secretary until the ripe age of eighty-nine. She attended Tulsa Public Schools graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. Vertice then attended Langston University with studies in Home Economics.

Vertice later met and married the love of her life, Mr. Sam H. Thompson, who preceded her in death. Vertice was a homemaker, an excellent cook and seamstress. She continued sewing projects up until her early ninety's.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her grandchildren, Sandra Martin (Houston, TX), Charles Miller (Kansas City, MO) and Samuel Folks (Tulsa, OK); a host of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her close dear friends: Paulette Furch, Natha Gardner, Catherine Watkins and Lille Walker; her Mt. Olive Church Family and other relatives and friends.
