Daughter of Lucy Neville Blakemore and Thomas Bragg of Vanceburg, Kentucky.

During the Revolutionary War, Amanda's father Thomas Bragg, served in the Revolutionary War as a Captain under Colonel Christopher Greenup. He commanded a Company of Virginia Militia. Amanda's maternal grandfather Thomas Blakemore served in Captain Maig's column of the Virginia 2nd Regiment. Her uncles Thomas and George Blakemore both served in Capt. Marquis Calmes, IV column of the Virginia 2nd Regiment (George Washington's regiment). Her grandfather and uncle George achieved the rank of Captain. Her uncle Thomas, Jr. was a private and killed in action at the Battle of Germantown at the age of 16. George Washington is listed in the Captain Marquis Calmes muster rolls with Amanda's uncles Thomas and George, but with no mention of George Washington's rank.
