From the Chandler News (Chandler, Oklahoma Territory), Thursday, September 28, 1905: "Death of Mrs. Ellis. Mrs. Lucy A. Ellis, one of Chandler's old and respected ladies, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. McElHinney, Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Ellis had been in poor health for some time but was taken suddenly ill a couple of weeks ago and since that time her recovery was dispared of. She was a woman well liked by the numerous people she came into contact with and her loss to the community is sincerely regretted. With her husband, Dr. Ellis, she came to Lincoln County shortly after the opening of this country and was a familiar figure to all our people. Six years ago Dr. Ellis preceded her to the great beyond. A short service was held at the home of Mrs. McElHinney when the remains were taken to Greenup, Kentucky, where they will be laid to rest beside those of her husband. In their sorrow the friends have the sympathy of all their acquaintances in Chandler."

In 1880, she and her husband Dr. Samuel Ellis were living next to the family of Dr. Abram Sellards. An infant son, Andrew J. Sellards was born and he died in 1880 and buried at the Hopewell Furnace Cemetery. This cemetery is not well documented and graves are scattered throughout the wooded area. As her husbands obituary states, his body, accompanied by his sorrowing wife and son-in-law, was taken to the old home at Greenupsburg, Kentucky (a.k.a. Greenup or Greenup County), for interment. She had been to the cemetery before and was to be laid to rest beside her husband.

Grandma Ellis died at 3 o’clock this afternoon after suffering intensely for nearly five weeks with kidney trouble. News of her death is learned with profound sorrow, the dear old lady having been deeply loved by all who knew her. She is an old resident of Chandler, having come here with her husband and the family of her daughter, Mrs. A.M. McElHinney, in the early days. Her husband, Dr. Samuel Ellis, died nearly six years ago, and she has since been tenderly cared for by her daughter and her grand children, all of whom were devotedly attached to her.
The remains of Mrs. Lucy A. Ellis will be taken to her old home near Louisville, Kentucky, for interment, accompany by her daughter, Mrs. A.M. McElHinney and grandson, Alex McElHinney. They will leave tonight on the meteor via Kansas City. Rev. J.E. Dinger conducted brief services from the home before the departure for the 5:55 train.
