John's obit from the Miami News dated Monday, November 25, 1929:
John T. Hukill dies at home in Afton. One of Afton's oldest men both in age and length of residence died today at his home here. No funeral arrangements have been made. Mr. Hukill who has been feeble for several years was knocked down by a slow moving freight car on the Frisco crossing in Afton 3 weeks ago and had been confined to his bed since that time. He was not injured by the fall according to reports, except for a slight shock.
The aged pioneer leaves no kids, but is survived by his wife Mrs. Lydia Hukill, one brother Charles of Seneca, Missouri and 2 sisters Iona Lovell of Terre Haute and Carrie Mapes of Terre Haute. Mr. Hukill was active in the hay and grain business when he came to Afton more than 30 years ago, but retired several years ago.

Miami News dated November 27, 1929:
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 Thursday P.M. at the Methodist Church. Services were in charge of the Reverend Harry W. Curtis, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Miami assisted by the Rev. John C. Linton who assisted at the funerals of the deceased's wife and son several years ago. The Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge of which John was a member attended the services in a body and the former conducted rites at the MT. Hope Cemetery where burial was in charge of the Painter Undertaking Company.
