She retired in 1978 from the first savings division of the New York Bank for Savings, now known as Goldome. Mrs. Young started her career as a teller with First Federal Savings and Loan Association, and held several positions before being named the first woman officer in 1971, when she became assistant treasurer. She became assistant comptroller when the company merged with the savings bank.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, George; a brother, Harold L. Dowding of Ruskin, Fla.; a sister, Pauline Davies of Central Square; and several nieces and nephews. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
