Wanda was born to Jones and Stella Steelman on a farm northwest of Pocasset, Oklahoma, the fifth of their ten children.
She attended Harold School through the 8th grade and then transferred to Pocasset High School, where she graduated in 1947. After graduation, she moved to Oklahoma City and worked at Streets Department Store in downtown Oklahoma City for several years.
She had a few short marriages:
- William Melton Boxley (1928–2015) on 23 Dec 1947 in Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas
- Robert Brady McCaslin (1917-1988) on 27 Jun 1950 in Canadian County, Oklahoma
- Wendell Ralph Roy Lievsay (1924–1999) on 5 Nov 1955 in Wichita County, Texas
She also lived with her parents in Pocasset for a while. She started working at the bank in Minco, where she met Calvin Bright, who was a bank customer. They married on August 23, 1958 and made their home in a little house on Highway 81 in Pocasset. A few years after their son was born, they built a house between Pocasset and Chickasha, where they spent the rest of their lives.
Wanda worked at the bank in Minco for many years. In her spare time and after she quit working, she loved spending time in her garden, tending her beautiful flowers.
