Robert was the son of Robert Abell & Margaret Mills. He attended St. Thomas Seminary & was ordained a priest 14 August 1818. Father Abell occupied the pulpit for the consecration of St. Joseph Cathedral in Bardstown, KY, on 8 August 1819 & was also there for the bicentennial anniversary 50 years later. In 1834, Father Abell was transferred to the town of Lebanon, KY. He was in charge of the church in Breckinridge Co. in 1819.
