McAffee Brothers Observe Birthday Events

W. L. McAffee and L. A. McAffee both had birthday anniversaries the past week and Sunday celebrated them together at the home of the former's daughter, Mrs. Chas. Blair on West Fifth Avenue North. Present for the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. W. L. McAffee, L. A. McAffee, Miss Marian McAffee, Mrs. Blair, son Willis, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kough and son, Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Bormann and son, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy McAffee and two children.

Monday neighbors of the McAffees came to spend the evening with him bringing a covered dish lunch. Five hundred and bingo were played. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 22, 1938)


W. L. McAffee
W. L. McAffee passed away last Monday January 16, 1939] at the Coleman hospital after an illness of long duration. Mr. McAffee has been in failing health for the past four years. For a year past he has been in exceedingly poor health.

Mr. McAffee was born Nov. 21 at Exira. He came to this city 34 years ago and has resided here since that time. The funeral services were held on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Sternborg funeral home and at 2:30 from the Presbyterian church, the Rev. Claude Fausnaugh officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.

He is survived by his widow and one son and six daughters. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 19, 1939)


Geo. Gerard of Guthrie Center, father of Mrs. W. L. McAffee and her sister Mrs. Jeffie Garnett and son Franklin of Audubon were in Estherville to attend the funeral of Mr. McAffee who passed away Monday and was laid to rest Wednesday. Mrs. Walter Spurling a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. McAffee who had been here during her father's last illness, returned to her home at Stratford the last of the week.
