Adele G. Smith, 89, of Moline, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Private inurnment was at the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Evening Meal c/o St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Adele Bleuer was born Jan. 26, 1920, in Rock Island, a daughter of Charles H. and Adele Catton Bleuer. She married William C. Smith on June 5, 1948, in Rock Island. He died on March 27, 1996.

She was employed as a senior code clerk at Bituminous Insurance Co., Rock Island, and retired in 1981. Adele was a member of the Bituminous Retirees Club.

She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, and the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island, and its Altar and Rosary Society. Adele was also an associate of the Congregation of the Humility of Mary, Davenport. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Adele loved being a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Survivors include her children (and spouses), Janet Smith (Don Stahlheber), Oak Ridge, Mo., Carolyn Smith-Hensley (Michael), Rock Island, William J. (Bambi) Smith, Rock Island, and Elizabeth "Betty" Smith, Rock Island; daughter-in-law, Rachel Fritz, Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren, Jameson, Zipporah and Emmanuel Smith, Dillon and Seth Stahlheber, Kevin and Daniel Hensley, Michael, Zachary (Megan) and Luke Smith; Laura VandeMoortel, Levi and Brett Livingston; great-grandchildren, Caine Smith and Josephina Smith-Beminio; sister, Marian Lingner, Rock Island; and sister-in-law, Kathryn Bleuer, Rock Island. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Joseph W. Smith; brother, Charles W. Bleuer; and brother-in-law, Wesley Lingner.

The family wishes to offer special thanks to Dr. Patrick Cunningham, the nurses at Trinity Medical Center, Lighthouse Homecare, staff and residents of Avonlea Cottage, staff of Silver Cross Nursing Center and Trinity Pathway Hospice for the loving and compassionate care given to our Mother.
