Donald A. Dreiling, 83, of Great Bend, died Nov. 11 at his home. He was born April 11, 1927, at Victoria, the son of Alexander John and Catherine (Brungardt) Dreiling. He married Nadine Moore on Oct. 2, 1954, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Chase. He owned and operated Don's Food Mart. He was a lifelong Great Bend resident, coming from Victoria.
He served during World War II in the United States Navy aboard the USS Adams and USS Mentour.
Mr. Dreiling was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3111 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a life member of American Legion Argonne Post 180, also, all of Great Bend.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine, of the home; one son, Don E. Dreiling of Great Bend; two daughters, Janet Schwamborn and husband Kenneth and Sheryl Schamaun and husband Steven, all of Great Bend; six grandchildren, Jason Dreiling of Hays, Zachary Schamaun and fiancee Loren Cason of Prairie Village, Ryan Schwamborn and Crystal McFann of Wichita, Brian Dreiling and wife Jenna, and Kyle Dreiling and Erin Baize, all of Great Bend, and Nicholas Schamaun of Topeka; and two great-grandchildren, Chase Hunter Dreiling and Carter Don Dreiling. He was preceded in death by infant brother Ralph Dreiling, and brothers Clarence Dreiling, Ralph Dreiling, Thomas Dreiling, and Charles Dreiling, and a sister, Eileen Damm.
A vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Bryant Funeral Home, Great Bend. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Peter Fernandez officiant. Interment will be in the Great Bend Cemetery, with Military Rites to be conducted by a United States Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
