On April 7, 1890 John's parents deeded him their 100-acre farm on the Pedernales River on the condition that he pay his brothers and sisters for their interest and that his parents may live in the house and use other appurtenances until they no longer needed them. His mother, Mathilde died 10 years later on January 21, 1900, and his father, Johann Jacob continued to live with John and his family on the farm.
John served as a Trustee for the Pedernales School, which his father had begun, from 1902 to 1914. In 1909 he deeded additional acre to the school.
John's father, Jacob died on November 23, 1912. John and his family lived and farmed in the Pedernales Community until they retired. By 1930 they were living on Lot 407 at 504 W. Creek St., which Anna had been given by her father. They lived there the remainder of their lives, along with their oldest daughter, Mary, her son Ruben, and their second youngest son, Edgar. Anna lived until February 15, 1942, and John lived until February 22, 1945.
