The daughter of Thomas Sopwith, Esq., and Gertrude Messiter, the "Rose of Lismore" married Edward Burd (E. Burd) Grubb on November 3, 1891 in London, England. They had three children, Edward Burd Grubb, III, Margaret Shippen Burd (1902-1904) and Violet Dorothea Grubb McLean.

She was decorated by Maria Christina, Queen Regent of Spain, with the Order of Maria Louisa, one of the most exclusive orders in Europe. She was also a member of the Colonial Dames of America, as tenth in descent from Tristram Coffin (through her maternal line).

During World War I she was the chairman of the British War Relief Committee in Philadelphia. Although bedridden and unable to walk (the result of an automobile accident in 1944), she spent some of her allocated two hours out of bed assisting a disabled veteran with his news stand in New York City. She later moved with her daughter to Maryland where she died at the age of 92.
