Mrs. Leota L. McKnight (a dear mother), 75, of Nampa, died on Friday, June 12, 1992, at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, at the Nampa 3rd Ward Church a Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 504 11th Ave. N. Bishop Wayne Rich of the LDS Church will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. Services are under the direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel.

Mrs. Leota L. McKnight was born on Feb. 3, 1917, at Lewiston, Utah, to Lester Oral and Verta Karren Layne. She was reared and educated in the Cache Valley area. Her mother died when she was two years old and she was reared by her grandmother and step-mother. She married William Henry McKnight on Dec. 15, 1936, at the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. They farmed in the Cache Valley area before moving to Nampa in 1944. Her husband preceded her in death on March 31, 1972. She started playing the piano by ear at an early age. She was well known in the Treasure Valley for her musical talents. She worked as a cook for the Nampa School District for several years. She was a lifetime active member of the Nampa 3rd Ward LDS Church where she held many church positions and gave many hours of compassionate service. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Her family is the center of her life.

Leota is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Chad and Jana McKnight, Middleton; DeLayne and Ruby McKnight, Nampa, and Paul and Barbara McKnight, Caldwell; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Karla and Jim Smith, Caldwell; Verta and Steve Black, Middleton and Marlene Curtis, Boise; her step-mother, Zora Layne, Lewiston, Utah; a brother, Bud Layne, Bountiful, Utah; two sisters, Verna Oliverson, Preston, Idaho, and Kathy Duncan, Idaho Falls, Idaho; 24 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-Law, Jon Curtis and a grandson, Andy Nau.

Friends may call at the Alsip Funeral Chapel on Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to noon. The family will greet friends at the Alsip Funeral Chapel on Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 2 to 2:45 p.m.

The family suggest memorials to the Mercy Medical Center Hospice Program, 1512 12th Ave. Rd., Nampa 83686, or to the Mountain States Tumor Institute, 151 E. Bannock St., Boise 83712-6297, or flowers may be sent.
