Hall of Fame Sports Broadcaster. He was the longtime voice of the Seattle Mariners, from the team's debut season of 1977 until his death. He attended Indiana University, and later broke into the broadcasting industry with the Armed Forces Radio and TV services; he announced Yankees' games, as well as hockey and basketball in New York. For a time during the 1960s, he worked games of the Los Angeles Rams and Lakers, before joining the broadcasting team of the California Angels (1969 to 1976), where he was partnered with Dick Enberg and later Don Drysdale. In addition, he called football and basketball contests for UCLA, before joining the Mariners' broadcast team. He was recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008, and was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame in 2000. He died from a heart attack.
