Mrs. Clothilda P. Broome, age 72, died on Thursday, November 24, 1977, Thanksgiving Day, after a long Illness. She was born in East Bristol, WI on January 26, 1905. The former Clothilda Weber married Fred J. Broome on October 16, 1923 at Sacred Hearts Church in Sun Prairie. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1973. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred who died October 30,1977. Mrs. Broome served as the Sun Prairie Chamber of Commerce Welcome Lady for many years and also wrote a weekly column for the Sun Prairie Star Countryman concerning those duties. She was a member of Sacred Hearts Catholic Church and St. Anthony's Circle. Mr. & Mrs. Broome assembled and decorated the Sacred Heart's Christmas Nativity Scene for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Sun Prairie Garden Club and Historical Society. Survivors include 2 sons, Bernard of Waterloo and Leon of Sun Prairie; 3 daughters, Mrs. Rosemary Leek of Delavan, Mrs. Geraldine Shelhamer of Sun Prairie and Mrs. Marlene Bensch of Lavonia, MI; 3 sisters, Mrs. Rose Weber and Mrs. Theckla Wagner of Columbus and Mrs. Clara Frey also of Columbus; 24 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 28 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Hearts Catholic Church, burial will be in Sacred Hearts Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Tuschen Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. WSJ 11/26/1977
