On May 7, 1972, he married Kathryn Schutz in Arapahoe.
Survivors are: wife of 38 years; daughters, Renee Lighthall and her husband, James, of Cozad and Kasi Dawson of Edison; son, Aaron Dawson and his wife, Angela, of Lincoln; four grandchildren; sisters, Kay Farr and her husband, Wayne, of Johnson Lake and Karen Johnson and her husband, Stan, of Kearney; brother, Richard Dawson and his wife, Barbara, of Johnson Lake; and a host of family and friends.
Roy went to country school through eighth grade and graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1969. He and Kathryn were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe.
Roy lived on Turkey Creek, north of Edison, all his life. He and Kathryn raised their family there. Roy was a farmer and started a new career later in crop insurance. He was co-owner of Great Plains Crop Services in Bertrand.
Roy loved spending time with his family. He looked forward to football Saturday and cheering on the Huskers. Roy enjoyed spending time on the golf course with friends, especially Thursday night golf league.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents.
