Henry Butler served as a Private in Company I of the 5th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment in the American Civil War.

He was severely wounded in the leg on July 2, 1863, the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg. He died the next day, July 3.

He was originally from Howell, Michigan, and was 19 years of age at the time of his enlistment.
